Data orchestration applied to railway maintenance

SMARTSET® is the condition-based maintenance system developed by Lucchini RS for real-time monitoring of wheel sets in the railway sector.
In collaboration with Lucchini RS and IOBO, oversaw the digital component of the platform, developing the software and interface that allow the data from the sensors to be managed and interpreted.


The value of SMARTSET® lies in data orchestration: the ability to transform continuous data flows into reliable operational information.



The context

Traditional railway maintenance is based on scheduled interventions. Condition-based maintenance, on the other hand, allows intervention only when the data indicates a real need, improving efficiency, safety and cost control.


SMARTSET® was created to enable this paradigm shift through the continuous monitoring of critical parameters such as loads and vibrations.



The challenge

Sensors generate large amounts of data in real time. Without structured management, this data remains complex to read and difficult to use in decision-making processes.

The challenge was therefore to orchestrate the data, not just collect it.



The Be2Net solution

Be2Net developed the SMARTSET® software platform, designed to:

  • display data in a clear and usable way

  • support quick decisions based on objective data
